About Us

Whilst, my wife and I are celebrating our first year as the owners of this land mark establishment, we have sought to maintain the high standards of the previous owners, while putting our own personal touch to the everyday running of the business.

Our History

The original inn (The Half Moon) was at Bo-Peep to the south of Alciston until around 1860 when it closed and the Southdown & East Grinstead brewery bought Rose Cottage a 17th century flint cottage with oak beams, crooked walls and ceilings, and turned it into the village inn.

Comprised of four public rooms three with tables and chairs as dining areas and one as a bar area, the whole has a very relaxed, cottage’y feel with small well-furnished front garden with views toward the Downs.

There is one old Sussex tradition carried on here, every Good Friday we hold ‘Long Rope’ skipping in the road outside the Inn. In the winter months we have real log fires and the occasional Darts night.

Our featured Cider is Wilmington Farm Cider from Sussex. We have a comprehensive wine list which is constantly changing, offering eight wines by the glass.
